Film documentary

Erik van Empel has has made in collaboration with NTR Television a 50 minutes long documentary on the work of his brother Ruud. The film will be broadcasted on Dutch television on september 6 NL 2, Het uur van de Wolf:

Exhibition at the MoPA, San Diego

The Museum of Photographic Arts MoPA in San Diego is making an exhibition with the photoworks of Ruud van Empel. Director Deborah Klochko is the curator of this first solo-exhibition of Ruud van Empel in the US. They will show over 40 works and will open on October 12, 2012 and will last until February 1, 2013. The exhibition will be accompied by a catalogue.

OSCAR Auction EJAF

Ruud van empel has donated one work to the 19 th Annual Elton john Aids foundation Oscar Auction Februari 2011. The work “Connection” was auctioned for 60.000 US dollars.

Exhibition at Groninger Museum

The Groninger Museum will make an oeuvre exhibition of the photoworks of Ruud van Empel. This first large exhibition will show over 80 works and will open on September 10 and go’s on until November 27 2011. The exhibition will be accompied by a catalogue.

Vintage works in exhibition

Flatland Gallery in Utrecht, The Netherlands, is organizing the first Vintage exhibition with the early works of Ruud van Empel made from 1995-2003. There will also be one work dating from 1983, an original handprinted work which is the very first photo artwork he produced.

New book with new works from Ruud van Empel

In January there will be a new book coming out with new series such as Dawn, Souvenir and Monument. Dutch Art-historian Maartje van den Heuvel (Prentenkabinet Leiden NL) has written a text about the history of the works by Ruud van Empel and writes about his technique and subjects, but also gives an analyses of all the critisism that has been on his work throughout the world in these last few years. A very interesting essay.

Exhibition at LGP Prague

The director from Leica Gallery Prague Jana Bömer has asked Ruud van Empel to exhibit his work in her exhibition space.The exhibition will open on 15 th of January and will last until April 18 th 2009. LGP is a photography gallery with a broadly envisioned concept: Its exhibition program focuses on the best that the international photography scene has to offer. As a nonprofit organization, the gallery touches upon important social issues through its program and it helps people to orientate in the contemporary world through cultural experiences.

Exclusive new work

Ruud van Empel was invited to make an exclusive work for a portfolio for the Elton John Aids Foundation. The portfolio will consist of 10 artists and the size will be 20x24 inches. A number of artists who are friends of Eltons have also committed. These include Thomas Struth, Damien Hirst, Sally Mann, Sam Taylor-Wood, Phillip Lorca-DiCorcia, Nan Goldin, and Richard Misrach. The portfolio will be introduced at the annual Elton John Oscar Party in Hollywood on February 22nd. 2009.

Portfolio Le Monde

In the French Newspaper Le Monde from November 15 th 2008 is a special High-tech issue, in here is a 8 page portfolio published from sketches Ruud van Empel made for his series The Office in the year 2000.

Exhibition at Museum Kunst Palast Dusseldorf

On Oktober 24 th,2008 the exhibition Diana and Actaeon, the forbidden glimpse of the naked body was opend by director Beat Wismer at the Museum KunstPalast in Dusseldorf, Germany. Ruud van Empel is present with one work in this exhibitions that runs through February 15, 2009

Book publication Beyond Photography, photography and imagination

Voetnoot Publishers and Ruud van Empel have produced a new book on photography from the Netherlands and Belgium about photography and imagination. It shows Photo Art from 1980 to 2008 and the 4 essay's are written by Maartje van den Heuvel, Rommert Boonstra, Lotte Menkman and Eric Min.

Exhibition at Kunstverein Halle, Germany

Ruud van Empel had the honor to show his works in the summer of 2008 at the Kunstverein “Talstrasse” e.V. in Halle (Saale) by invitation of Matthias Rataiczyk and Christin Müller-Wenzel. The exhibition was opend by Angelika Honsbeek, Kulturattacheé from the Dutch embassy, Berlin. He presented him with a beautifull bouquet made specially for him by Geer Pouls from Gallery Brutto Gusto Berlin. Than Art Historian Christoph Kivelitz made a speech about the history and works of Ruud van Empel.
After this there was a presentation with works from students Fashion Design Der Burg Giebichenstein Art University for Art & Design Halle, in the style of the portrait of Ruud van Empel. The exhibition is from July 24 to Oktober 5, 2008
